Who doesn’t love a spot of camping? Well, I guess that depends on the weather. But, for many people, camping is the perfect opportunity to get as close to nature as you can be.

You can pitch up pretty much anywhere in the world – safety issues aside, of course.

And, it’s a dirt cheap way to have a great trip on your own, with friends or with the family.

However, what can make the difference between a good camping trip and a great one is the equipment you bring. In this article, we’re going to take a look at some of the things we have found to be essential. They will help you, make your time more comfortable, and give you some entertainment. So without further ado, here are some of our favorite camping items that can make a difference.

A Great Knife

OK, so there are knives, and there are knives you need on a camping trip. If you are going to do it properly, you’re going to need something that will do more than spread butter on your toast. First of all, it should cut through wood so you can build a fire – the proper way, of course. Also, there’s a good chance that some of your cooking won’t be quite as melt in the mouth as you make it at home. And finally, if it’s your kind of thing, you may even need it to skin an animal. Visit Esee’s page for a good example of the sort of knife you might want to go for. But, please; make sure you are careful!

All good camping trips turn great when you have built a fire. The trouble is, you have no control of the weather, and any wood you might find could be damp. However, if you bring a stack of ready chopped logs and kindling, you won’t be disappointed. Sure, you will lose the experience of finding your firewood, but it’s the building and lighting that’s the fun part, right? Oh, and before we finish on fire, one final point. Leave your barbecue at home if you want the real camping experience. It’s cheating, pure and simple.

A Torch (With Batteries)

At some point on your camping trip, there is a high likelihood that you will need to get out of your tent in the middle of the night. And, it doesn’t matter whether it’s for bathroom reasons or there’s a large wild animal snuffling around your tent – you will need light. It’s dark out in the sticks, and as beautiful as those stars might look, they aren’t going to light your path. A good, reliable torch to pierce that darkness is essential. Keep it within easy reach, and don’t forget some spare batteries. Oh, and by the way – a heavy torch makes an excellent alternative to a tent peg hammer.

A Solar Powered Radio

Solar power is a great thing, isn’t it? So why not make use of your long days outside and charge up a solar powered radio to give you some entertainment of the evening. When you’re in the middle of the country, power points are few and far between But with solar power, you’ll get some entertainment when you need it. And the extra bonus is that it means the guy who brought his guitar won’t have to play it around the campfire. Double points!
